Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what the waiting time was for ADHD diagnosis and treatment in each of the last seven years.

In February 2016, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published a refreshed clinical guideline 72: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: diagnosis and management. This sets out the evidence-based approach to supporting children over three, young people and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

NICE is developing a new guideline on ADHD which is expected to be published in February 2018.

England continues to develop pathways for mental health services, which benefit people with ADHD needing mental health support, to promote evidence-based approaches to care and tackle unwarranted variation in provision. NICE and the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health have been commissioned to develop these pathways.

Information on waiting times for ADHD diagnosis, or on the waiting time from referral to treatment, is not collected centrally by the National Health Service.

Information on funding specifically allocated to ADHD treatment by local commissioners in the last seven years is not held centrally.
