Army: Reserve Forces

Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many and what proportion of the total strength of the Army Reserve as at 1 October 2017 are (a) Phase 1 Trained, (b) Phase 2 (or special to arm) Trained and (c) new entrants or recruits.

The numbers and proportions of the Army Future Reserves 2020 as at 1 October 2017 who are Phase 1 trained, Phase 2 trained and not yet Phase 1 trained are shown below.

Notes:

  1. The number and percentage of Army Reserves who are not yet Phase 1 trained includes recent entrants and recruits. It may also include personnel who have joined the Reserves over a year ago but have not yet completed Phase1 training.

  1. Future Reserves 2020 includes volunteer reserves who are mobilised, High Readiness Reserves and those volunteer reserves serving on Full Time Reserve Service (FTRS) and Additional Duties Commitment (ADC). Sponsored Reserves who provide a more cost effective solution than volunteer reserve are also included in the Army Reserve FR20.

  1. Figures have been rounded to 10 for presentational purposes; numbers ending in "5" have been rounded to the nearest multiple of 20 to prevent systematic bias.
