Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if he will introduce compulsory microchipping of domestic cats.

Whilst we recommend that cat owners have their cats microchipped, there are no plans to make this compulsory. Microchipping was made compulsory for dogs not just to help reunite stray dogs with their owners, but also because stray dogs can generate public safety and environmental issues.
