Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what the average number of self-harm incidents by prisoners per prison has been in England and Wales in each of the last five years.

Details of self-harm incidents occurring in prisons, including a breakdown of incident numbers by establishment, are released by MoJ annually in the Safety in Custody National Statistics bulletin. Data for 2017 will be published in the next release, in April 2018. Average figures for previous years can be derived from table 2.13 at: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/654502/safety-in-custody-self-harm-dec-16.xls.
