Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what comparative assessment he has made of the outcomes of sentencing outcomes conducted (a) in court and (b) via video link.
The MoJ has not conducted an assessment of outcomes of sentencing hearings depending on whether video was used. Sentencing outcomes are a matter for the judiciary.
MoJ does not collect data centrally that distinguishes between video or in court hearings. To collect this data would require significant manual intervention and would incur disproportionate cost.
