Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what steps the Government is taking to ensure that a migrant facing deportation from the UK has adequate opportunity to receive legal aid in support of their case.
Legal aid remains available for individuals faced with deportation where they are claiming asylum or challenging their detention.
On 30 October, the former Lord Chancellor, David Lidington, announced the start of the Post-Implementation Review of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO). The review will include an assessment of the effect of changes in the scope of legal aid for immigration cases.
