Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what estimate has been made of the number of single use disposable cups that are (a) used and (b) sent for recycling by his Department each year.

No estimate has been made of the Department’s use of single use disposable cups that are used each year and sent for recycling. The coffee cups used in the Department’s headquarters office in 2 Marsham Street are biodegradable.

Staff and visitors are encouraged to dispose of waste appropriately and use recycling bins where it is appropriate to do so.

Details of how we have reduced our waste to landfill is published in our annual report and accounts. The Department has achieved an overall waste reduction of 78 per cent since 2009/10.
