Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, whether the Government paid more than the initial estimate to Amey for its maintenance of prisons in (a) 2016 and (b) 2017.

There was an underestimation of the historical costs of maintenance and services, which meant that more of the award has been spent on maintenance and services rather than efficiency savings. As a result, the contract is expected to cost more than the initial estimate to Amey for its maintenance of prisons.
