We want to provide all young people with a curriculum that ensures they are prepared for adult life in modern Britain. The national curriculum, which focuses on the key knowledge that schools should teach, should enable children to acquire a secure understanding of the key concepts and provide them with the understanding they need to participate fully in society. It is left to teachers’ professional judgement to decide how to teach the national curriculum to meet the needs of their pupils.

The UK has a proud record of promoting equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and we remain committed to this.
