Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what estimate his Department has made of the amount of revenue for the public purse which was lost as a result of (a) tax evasion and (b) the hidden economy in each year since 2016.

The information requested on the amount of revenue lost as a result of (a) tax evasion and (b) the hidden economy for the tax year 2015-16 is available in Chapter 1 of the Measuring Tax Gaps 2017 report, available at https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/655097/HMRC-measuring-tax-gaps-2017.pdf.
