Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many adoption placements were completed in each of the last 10 years.

The number of looked after children who were adopted from care in each of the last 10 years is given in the table below and can be found in Table H1 of the statistical release ‘Children looked after in England including adoption: 2016 to 2017’ which is published at https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/children-looked-after-in-england-including-adoption-2016-to-2017.

1. Numbers have been rounded to the nearest 10.

2. Figures exclude children looked after under an agreed series of short term placements.

3. Historical data may differ from older publications. This is mainly due to the implementation of amendments and corrections sent by some local authorities after the publication date of previous materials.

The department does not collect information on the number of children who were adopted without being previously looked after.
