Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether his Department has made an assessment of the implications for its policies of the government of Egypt's compliance with its diplomatic obligations in providing consular access by UK officials to Alaa Abd-El Fattah; and if he will make a statement.

Any consular assistance we can provide remains, at all times, dependent on the cooperation of the detaining State. The Egyptian Government does not recognise Mr El-Fattah as a British national. We are continuing to seek consular access and to call for his release at the highest levels of the Egyptian Government.
