Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will review the effectiveness of steps taken by his Department to ensure that UK training programmes provided for foreign armed forces do not contribute to the internal suppression of civilians in those countries.
All assistance we provide to foreign armed forces is conducted in accordance with an Overseas Security and Justice Assessment of the country concerned which assesses risks, including those relating to human rights and international humanitarian law, and considers what measures might be necessary to mitigate any such risk.
