Data about assaults by prisoners, including those on prison staff, is published in the quarterly Safety in Custody statistics. The figures for January to March 2018 are scheduled to be published on 26 July.

The most recent statistics were published on 26 April and cover assaults to December 2017. Figures for individual prisons can be found in the data tool: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/676164/assaults-data-tool.xlsx.

We are addressing the high-levels of violence in prisons by recruiting extra staff and giving all staff the tools and training to help them reduce violence. We are investing £100 million to boost the front line and we are over half way to our target of recruiting 2,500 extra prison officers. We have invested in 5,600 body-worn cameras to help protect our prison staff, and we are working with the police and Crown Prosecution Service to prosecute prisoners who assault staff.
