Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what discussions he has had with his Peruvian counterpart on the possibility of an early general election in that country.

The Minister for the Americas & Caribbean, David Rutley discussed the political situation in Peru during a recent meeting with the Peruvian Ambassador. Our Embassy in Lima is also in regular contact with the Peruvian authorities about the ongoing political crisis and we are closely monitoring news on a possible early election. The UK has made clear its support for the Government of Peru, for constitutional order and for the rule of law.
