Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether the Government plans to launch a formal review of (a) the effectiveness of sanctions on Russia and (b) potential changes to improve the effectiveness of those sanctions.
We monitor the effectiveness of all of our sanctions, including on Russia and keep our sanctions legislation and structures under constant review to ensure that they are as effective as possible. Sanctions are imposing significant costs on the Russian economy. Its budget is in deficit and is expected to remain so until 2025. Russia's imports of sanctioned goods are down by 50 per cent and have declined from both sanctioning countries and countries who have not imposed sanctions on Russia. This is disrupting and degrading Russia's military capabilities.
