Guidance to employers on conducting Right to Work checks, which includes the documents they may accept as evidence of someone’s right to work in the UK, is published at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/right-to-work-checks-employers-guide.

In the event that employees, or prospective employees, are unable to present documentation which is acceptable for the purposes of demonstrating their right to work, the employer may contact the Home Office’s Employer Checking Service to confirm if an individual has the right to work.
