Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment he has made of (a) the additional amount of extra traffic caused by a waste incinerator being in use and (b) the increase in emissions of (i) PM10, (ii) PM2.5, (iii) PM 1 and (iv) PM0.1 caused by that extra traffic.
In order to decide whether to grant an environmental permit to operate a new incinerator, the Environment Agency is required to consider all emissions arising from activities carried out within the permit boundary of the proposed site, including emissions arising from vehicle movements. Assessment of the impact of emissions from vehicle movements to and from the site is the responsibility of the local planning authority.
