The Home Office does not centrally hold the information requested.

The Home Office collects and publishes statistics on the number of police officers employed by each police force in England and Wales. These data are broken down by rank, which includes: Chief officer, Chief superintendent, Superintendent, Chief inspector, Inspector, Sergeant and Constable. Information on the number of officers employed as detectives is not collected.

Data are published in the ‘Police workforce, England and Wales’ statistical bulletins, which can be accessed here: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/police-workforce-england-and-wales
