Seemingly innocuous medication side effects can have serious safety implications in the military aviation context. Consequently, approving medication use in aviation is a rigorous, evidence-based process involving a number of pharmacists, medical and aviation experts. The process ensures benchmarking with other military organisations and civilian counterparts.

This extensive process is currently underway to approve PrEP and it is expected to result in revised policy being published in August 2022. The aspiration is to publish sooner if possible and the process is currently being advanced to achieve this.
