Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what training her Department provides on AI; and (a) how many hours and (b) what topics and skills are covered by such training.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) provides a range of Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning opportunities to develop the skills needed to exploit AI safely, effectively and responsibly in support of Defence outputs. MOD provides access to AI learning primarily through its My Digital Skills platform which includes a range of professionally accredited learning. This resource is available to all Regulars, Reservists and Civilians.
The AI training available ranges from short introductory modules of less than one hour through to more comprehensive learning pathways requiring several hours of study. Topics covered include AI awareness and literacy, prompt engineering, responsible and ethical use of AI, governance and assurance, machine learning fundamentals, data and analytics, automation, autonomous systems, cyber implications, and practical applications of AI within Defence.
Not all AI learning is measured in hours consumed. It is not possible therefore to provide an overall AI learning hours figure for Defence.
