Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, what recent assessment he has made of the adequacy of building regulations that ensure commercial properties are accessible for those with disabilities.
Government has recently completed research on disabled people's experience which will be published in due course. While building control cannot require accessibility upgrades to existing commercial properties, the Equality Act 2010 includes a right for disabled people to complain and a duty for commercial property owners to anticipate making reasonable adjustments.
