In launching the UK Town of Culture competition, the government announced that each of the shortlisted towns will receive £60,000 to help deliver full bids for competition, the winner will receive a £3 million prize; and two runners up will receive £250,000.

The competition is still underway and so the administration and assessment costs are yet to be determined.
