The northern province of Mozambique, Cabo Delgado, has seen an increase in attacks by groups with links to Islamic extremism. They have been responsible for more than twenty incidents, including the murder of up to twelve villagers in late May 2018. British officials have discussed the deteriorating security situation in Cabo Delgado province with both our international partners and the Mozambican authorities. On 14 June 2018 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office changed its Travel Advice to advise against all non-essential travel to the three districts in the Cabo Delgado province where the attacks have been mounted.
