Question to the Department for Business and Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, whether she has had discussions with the Secretary of State for Transport on the potential merits of introducing TIR carnets to support trade in goods between Great Britain and the EU; and if she will make a statement.

Both the EU and the UK are contracting parties to the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) and the Common Transit Convention (CTC). This means that traders in both the UK and the EU can choose to use the TIR or CTC process to move goods across borders using transit. Goods moving under a transit declaration do not need to undertake import and export procedures at every border.
