Special Educational Needs: Teachers

Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many specialist leaders of education in England are specialists in (a) English and (b) special educational needs and disability.
This question was answered on 19th July 2018
Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) are designated by Teaching Schools.
Although we request that Teaching Schools inform us of all SLE designations and de-designations, this is not a condition of our grant payments to Teaching Schools.
Based on the information supplied to us by Teaching Schools, there are 1330 SLEs with the special educational needs specialism and 2461 SLEs with the English specialism as of 1 July 2018.
