Statistics released on 11 September show that the labour market continues to perform strongly. The employment rate is at a near-record high and the unemployment rate has not been lower since 1975. Average real-terms weekly earnings excluding bonuses increased by 0.5% over the year.

The Government response to the Taylor Report, published in February, set out the steps which the Government is taking to deliver its ambition that all work in the UK economy should be fair and decent with realistic scope for development and fulfilment.
