Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, if he will bring forward legislative proposals to redefine live animals in divorce cases so they are not regarded as property.

The Government has no current plans to change the law in this way. Divorcing couples are free to agree their own arrangements in relation to animals, including family pets
