Question to the Department for International Development:
To ask the Secretary of State for International Development, what assessment she has made of the effectiveness of the UK’s past investment in the Global Financing Facility in support of Every Woman Every Child in Nigeria.
The Global Financing Facility (GFF) is a country driven financing partnership. In Nigeria the plans are to scale up health services in conflict affected North East Nigeria, accelerating nutrition results for women, children and adolescents in Nigeria, and support to the Basic Health Care Provision Fund.
We hope the GFF’s investment in this Fund will improve and strengthen primary health care starting in three of Nigeria’s 36 states. This is designed to leverage additional Government of Nigeria financing every year to scale up the scheme across the rest of the country.
All the projects are at an early stage. We expect delivery in some areas will be particularly challenging and appropriate planning and preparation is needed.
