Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what recent discussions he has had and with whom on the proposed sale of Wembley Stadium.
Ministers have had a number of discussions about the potential sale of Wembley.
The proposed sale would be a commercial transaction between the Football Association and Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I have a strong interest because the Secretary of State would need to approve the sale as it is currently structured.
As The FA continues to work through the commercial detail of any deal, I will be seeking important assurances from them that any sale must be in the best interests of the public, including around the future use of the stadium and that the proceeds of any sale provide an all important boost for grassroots football in this country.
