Voting Rights: Foreign Nationals

Question to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities:

To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, if he will make it his policy that foreign nationals who have lived in the UK for more than five years should be able to (a) stand and (b) vote in all (i) local elections, (ii) general elections and (iii) referendums.

No. The Representation of People Act 1983 and subsequent legislation set out which non-UK nationals' resident in the UK can participate in our Parliamentary and Local elections. This is rightly restricted to British citizens and those with the closest historic links to our country.
