Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, with reference to the report, Building the Right Support, published in 2015, what progress his Department is to reduce the number of people with (a) learning disabilities and (b) autism being held on Assessment and Treatment Units by March 2019.
Implementation of Building the Right Support has seen a reduction in the number of people with learning disability and/or autism who are mental health inpatients, from the 2,880 baseline in March 2015. This includes people who are in Assessment and Treatment Units, and other mental health inpatient settings. The number of inpatients at the end of September 2018 was 2,315.
Since 2015, there have been over 5,700 discharges into the community, including over 620 people who had previously been in hospital five years or more, and 413 inpatient beds decommissioned.
