As independent contractors, general practices are responsible for employer pension contributions for their staff. NHS Pension Scheme employer contributions are factored into funding provided to practices to deliver services in the National Health Service.

The multi-year general practitioner contract framework provided funding clarity and certainty to practices until 2023/24. The current framework ends in April 2024. Future funding arrangements for general practice will be considered in due course.
