Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether he has made a recent assessment of the effect of training provided to local security forces in Niger through the EU common security and defence policy field office in Agadez on the rate of human smuggling in that country; and if he will make a statement.

​The EU has provided training to the Nigerien civilian security forces through EUCAP Sahel Niger since 2012. The mission provides support to build law enforcement capacity as well as assistance to tackle irregular migration. The UK supports it as part of our broader efforts to strengthen security capacity in fragile countries in Africa.
