Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, what recent assessment he has made of the ability of the construction trade to deliver his Department's housebuilding targets.
The Government is committed to our ambition of delivering 300,000 homes per year to help create a more sustainable and affordable housing market. We recognise – and are monitoring – the challenges currently facing the sector, driven by the tough economic climate.
The Government recognises how critical a strong and skilled labour market is for industry. We are supporting developers to recruit and train staff by ramping up funding for apprenticeships across all sectors to £2.7 billion by 2024-25; making apprenticeships more flexible; providing millions in funding per year through the apprenticeship levy; and covering 95% of training costs for SME employers.
