Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what estimate he has made of the number of ticket machines that will need to be (a) installed, (b) replaced and (c) upgraded under proposals to close railway ticket offices.
When proposing major changes to ticket office opening hours, including closures, operators are required to take into account the adequacy of the proposed alternatives – such as ticket vending machines – in relation to the needs of all passengers.
Train companies have now opened consultations, and industry plans for the installation, replacement or upgrading of ticket vending machines will be finalised once consultations have concluded.
