In June 2022, The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) published a report reviewing naloxone implementation in the United Kingdom, including the effectiveness of naloxone. The ACMD is the Government’s independent expert advisory body on drug-related issues and its report highlighted the importance of naloxone, providing evidence showing an association between administration of naloxone and a reduction of opioid overdose-related deaths.

The Government considers naloxone to be effective in reducing opioid overdose-related deaths and is working to widen access to, and increase the uptake of, this life saving drug.
