Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many training places for general practice in each region were (a) commissioned and (b) filled in each of the last five years.
The Department set up Health Education England (HEE) to deliver a better healthcare workforce for England. HEE is responsible for ensuring a secure workforce supply for the future balancing need against demand, taking into account factors such as the age profile of the existing workforce, the impact of technology, and new drugs.
The attached table sets out the number of training places for General Practice that were commissioned and filled for each of the last five years on a regional basis.
It should be noted that the figure for 2014 represents figures for the year to date. A further recruitment round is planned by HEE in the autumn.
