Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the average (a) individual payout and (b) individual financial settlement under the Armed Forces Pension Scheme has been in each year since 2010.
The Armed Forces Pension Scheme is an occupational pension scheme. Payments are made using calculations based on a Service person’s salary and number of years service.
It would give a false impression to give an answer based on a mathematical calculation of dividing the annual expenditure by the number of Pension members. It is therefore not appropriate to provide an average individual pay out and individual financial settlement.
Financial Year | Number* of payments | Total paid out £ millions |
2010-11 | 377,325 Pensions & dependants 10,455 Lump Sum | 3,519 |
2011-12 | 383,490 Pensions & dependants 11,945 Lump Sum | 3,811 |
2012-13 | 390,040 Pensions & dependants 12,950 Lump Sum | 4,071 |
2013-14 | 396,603 Pensions & dependants 13,175 Lump Sum | 4,089 |
