Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what recent assessment he has made of the average cost of administering probate for an estate valued at (a) £5,000 (b) £50,0000 and (c) £2 million; and if he will make a statement.

Whilst current probate fees are determined based on an assessment of unit costing at a service level, the Ministry of Justice has not made any assessment specifically on the costs to HMCTS of administering an application for probate for estates of £5,000, £50,000 or £2 million.
