Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many drivers charged with dangerous driving offences were made to surrender their licence as a condition of bail in the last year.

Bail conditions are recorded on HMCTS’ case management systems as a free text field. As each condition is a unique data entry and there is no common field that could be aggregated to enable central collation they cannot answer this question. The only way it could be answered would be to manually check every case where conditional bail has been granted at any point during the case and check both the conditions and the offence or offences. This would incur disproportionate costs.
