Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what steps he is taking with his international counterparts to co-ordinate the rescue of girls and women kidnapped by Boko Haram; what steps he is taking to help prevent further such abductions; and if he will make a statement.
The UK is working closely with Nigeria, its neighbours and other international partners to tackle Boko Haram, including to find victims of abduction. The UK is providing a substantial package of support, including training and advice to Nigerian military units that will be deployed against Boko Haram, surveillance assets and intelligence expertise. We have also committed £1 million to the UN Safe Schools Initiative, designed to promote a safer environment for children in north east Nigeria to receive their education.
