To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many sitting magistrates there were in each of the last five financial years.

The number of sitting magistrates in England and Wales in each of the last five financial years was as follows:
2013-2014 – 21,613
2012-2013 – 23,244
2011-2012 – 25,155
2010-2011 – 26,966
2009-2010 – 29,270
