Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, how much his Department has spent on (a) taxis, (b) first class train tickets and (c) business class air travel in each of the last five years.
With the exception of spending on taxis, and for travel before financial year 2013/14, the Department’s systems do not do not routinely classify travel information in this way and producing it would incur disproportionate cost.
Expenditure on taxis fares in the last five years was as follows:
Financial Year | DCMS Expenditure | GEO Expenditure | Total Expenditure
2009-10 | 18,149 | Information not held | 18,149
2010-11 | 9,224 | Information not held | 9,224
2011-12 | 23,153 | 1,172 | 24,325
2012-13 | 51,596 | 2,297 | 53,893
2013-14 | 9,754 | 452 | 10,206 |
These figures include expenditure directly related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
DCMS is only able to recognise the class of travel from 1 Feb 2013 when it changed its travel agent. Prior to this there was no distinction made on travel costs with relation to its class for either air or train travel, and therefore this cannot be shown. Travel expenses incurred in 2013/14 are as follows:
| DCMS Expenditure | GEO Expenditure | Total Expenditure |
Business Class air fares | 54,778 | 2,219 | 56,997 |
First Class train tickets | 259 | 0 | 259 |
