Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many military compensation claimants have been subject to surveillance in each year since 2008; in what proportion of such compensation claim cases surveillance footage was used; what the cost of undertaking such surveillance was; and if he will make a statement.

The numbers of cases where such claims have been subject to surveillance are as follows:

The number of occasions where surveillance was undertaken over the period in question represents 0.6% of the overall number of military compensation claims brought against the Department.

The average cost of surveillance, which usually covers a two day period, is £1,800 including VAT.
