Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many military compensation claimants have been subject to surveillance in each year since 2008; in what proportion of such compensation claim cases surveillance footage was used; what the cost of undertaking such surveillance was; and if he will make a statement.
The numbers of cases where such claims have been subject to surveillance are as follows:
Year | Military claimants subject to surveillance |
2008 | 15 |
2009 | 16 |
2010 | 16 |
2011 | 13 |
2112 | 7 |
2013 | 16 |
2014 | 14 |
The number of occasions where surveillance was undertaken over the period in question represents 0.6% of the overall number of military compensation claims brought against the Department.
The average cost of surveillance, which usually covers a two day period, is £1,800 including VAT.
