Of the 6,400 traineeship completions reported to date (August 2013 to October 2014) one per cent lasted less than one month, 32 per cent lasted between one and three months, 48 per cent lasted between three and six months, and 18 per cent lasted more than six months. These data will include trainees that left earlier than originally expected for positive destinations.

While work experience and work preparation training should be completed within 6 months of starting a traineeship, learners are able to continue to study English and/or maths for longer – for example, as part of further learning or while they are in work. Therefore, the length of traineeships can vary greatly.
