Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the effectiveness of the publication entitled Understanding behaviours and expectations in the UK: a guide for asylum seekers, in reducing offending and improving understanding of UK law among people seeking asylum.
We expect everyone who comes to the UK to abide by our laws. If they do not, they will face consequences, including the refusal of their asylum claim and removal from the UK. These resources were produced for asylum seekers so there can be no possible misunderstanding of what we expect. They are setting out something most people in this country would regard as common sense, but we would rather be completely clear about our expectations than leave any room for ambiguity. The products have not been developed on the basis that asylum seekers are more likely to commit sexual or criminal offences than the general public.
