Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the potential impact of the 24-week target on the number of successful asylum appeals.

The 24-week timeframe provisions are designed to speed up appeals from non-detained foreign national offenders and those in asylum support accommodation, if it is reasonably practicable to do so. These provisions, however, are not designed or intended to change the outcome of any appeal.

All cases continue to be subject to the Tribunal’s overriding objectives, contained in the Tribunal Procedure (First-Tier Tribunal) (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) Rules 2014, which provide that cases should be dealt with fairly and justly.
