Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, for what reasons registered nurses employed by nursing and care homes are not able to administer medication by injection or change dressings for patients who are self-funding where continuing healthcare funding is not in place; and if he will make a statement.

We are not aware of any reason under the National Framework for Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care, or as part of the professional regulation of registered nurses, why appropriately trained registered nurses employed by care homes would not be able to administer medication by injection, or change dressings, for self-funded residents.
