This Government committed to providing a strong safety-net for those who need it and we continue to spend over £95 billion a year on welfare benefits for people of working age. We want to build a better understanding of household food needs so that it can ensure that it shapes future support in a way that targets those who need it most. The new questions that we are including on the Family Resources Survey starting from April 2019 will enable us to better understand the drivers of food insecurity and identify which groups are most at risk.
